I wrote a couple of weeks ago about deciding when to let go. It is always so difficult to make that decision and send an animal you thought would be a beloved family member to another home, but I think if the decision is made with the animal’s best interests in mind, it is a good decision. We made that decision with Sasha, and she went to live with her new family a few days ago.
I really miss her, just because she was part of our family even though she didn’t really fit in. Despite missing her, however, I am relieved that the decision was made and acted on. My biggest concern was that our other dog would be heartbroken, but even she seems to be taking it well. She is more social with us, but that would be expected in any case. She isn’t moping or having trouble eating, and you can hardly tell anything has changed for her.
The kids didn’t seem to mind at all, but she was such a buffoon around them that I didn’t expect them to miss her. She wasn’t mean, but she was too friendly; knocking them over and licking them too much in the face.
Her new owners are very happy with her, and by their accounts, she is very happy with them. It was a really hard decision, but it seems to have worked out for everyone involved. I am sure Sasha will be happier with a family she fits in with, and who is happy to have her, than she could have been here where she just didn’t fit in.
