Just when I thought I had heard of every imaginable type of animal cruelty one another horrible crime came to life.  This isn’t your typical hoarding, dog fight or starvation case. This particular case takes on an unexplained evil, thankfully the hands of justice came spiraling down.

A 55 year old man who, known for meth use and currently on parole was sentenced to 10 years for sexually molesting a little Chihuahua named Shadow with a foreign object. Shadow ‘s injuries were so severe that surgery was needed. The judge was able to hand down a 10 year sentence by using Jessica’s law due to the sexual nature of the crime.

The reason that this man chose to commit such a crime is unknown. For the life of me I am unable to imagine at what point he looked at shadow and became aroused. Regardless of the reason, I’m thankful of the verdict.

It’s not completely set in stone yet, as the defense attorney in the case is planning to appeal the verdict on the grounds that the this case is animal cruelty and not sexual. Though the chances of overturning a verdict is always a possibility, in this particular case the damage both physical and psychological were so severe that it would be surprising if the verdict is overturned. As odd as this case is, it’s not the first time that animals have been abused sexually in one way or another. It’s my hope that this case sets precedence for all sexually related animal abuse cases.
