If you have a love for animals, it makes sense to pursue a career helping them. Since animals are such a pervasive part of our lives, there are many careers choices for those interested in dedicating themselves to helping and protecting our furry friends.
Veterinarian
Veterinarians care for sick animals and provide preventive care to keep animals well. You can specialize in a particular type of animal, such as small animals, large animals or exotics, or work with all types of animals.
Veterinary Technician
A veterinary technician assists veterinarians and provides many routine care services, such as vaccinations, X-rays and minor medical care, all under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian.
Fish & Wildlife Officer
These officers work for the U.S. Department of Fish & Wildlife and are tasked with making sure regulations are followed in fishing, hunting and other activities involving wild animals.
Wildlife Rehabilitator
A wildlife rehabilitator takes in sick, injured or orphaned wild animals and works to get them well enough to go back into the wild.
Kennel Worker
Kennel workers care for our pets when we need to board them, offering exercise, play and other care to the animals in the kennel.
Groomer
A groomer helps keep our furry friends looking good and staying clean, by washing, clipping and performing other basic hygiene tasks.
Pet Sitter
Pet sitters take care of our pets, either in our home or theirs, while we are on vacation, at work or otherwise unable to be with our pets.
These are just a few of the many careers you can choose if you want a career involving animals. Other options include educator, marine biologist, zoologist, animal trainer, and many more. While some require formal schooling, others, such as a pet sitter or groomer, require no schooling, just a love of animals.
